SomoS

SomoS’ Artist-in-Residence Program offers cultivated, supportive and stimulating surroundings to international visiting artists wishing to realize an artistic project in Berlin. The residency, normally completed within three months, is focused on production, experience, critical discourse, networking, and local participation. Staying at SomoS, participants will become a part of a thriving artistic community with an active exhibition and event program and will easily and swiftly become well-acquainted with the creative, networked city that is Berlin. Residents will be provided with accommodation in furnished studios with access to shared areas of SomoS such as a large fully-equipped kitchen, a big social living space and salon (suitable for screenings or meetings) and office facilities. Selected artists work towards a presentation of their work concluding their stay, either as a solo show, or as part of a thematic group show developed by SomoS’ curators. Resident’s activities like workshops, talks etc. can be hosted in our exhibition or salon space. It is a one person per studio residency. There are up to 8 studio's. The four meter high well-insulated studios are bright and suitable for various “clean” disciplines and purposes (such as drawing, collage, photography, digital production, media-art, performance, choreography, design, research, literature, arts & crafts, film/video) and are equipped with large working table, chairs, couch, bed, and led panels. The residents have a steadily growing range of art equipment and tools at their disposal, as well as daily on-site staff support.
