Open Ateliers Zuidoost For years now, Open Ateliers Zuid-Oost (OAZO) has been working on providing affordable work space for artists within the cultural spectrum in the Bijlmer. After years of temporary space in flats and like Klieverink, Kouwenoord, Koningshoef and Groeneveen, OAZO has made at least 2.200 m2 of permanent workshop space available for use by artists in the lower levels of the honeycomb shaped flats Echtenstein and Kruitberg since 2005. This anchoring offers space for 60 artists to develop their artistic practices in the area. This makes OAZO the generator of a high concentration of creative activity in the “E- and K-buurt” (E- and K-zone of the neighbourhood). OAZO also organises events like the OAZO Artist in Residence and the OPEN ART ROUTE. These work spaces are realised in cooperation with housing association Rochdale and the local council, and is subsidised by the city of Amsterdam, Bureau Broedplaatsen Amsterdam, and the European Union. Echtenstein Echtenstein is situated beside the Daalwijkdreef and counts 24 workshops which cover a total of 660 m2 on the ground and first floors of the flat. The individual size of the studio’s vary from 19 to 42 m2. The price per square meter per year is €61,- (price index 1-7-2016), excluding service costs and costs for water, power, heating and VAT. Kruitberg Kruitberg is situated beside Kraaienest and counts 36 workshops and a combined work space of 1.600 m2 on the ground and first floors of the flat. The individual size of the studio’s vary from 21 to 62 m2. The price per square meter per year is €61,- (price index 1-7-2016), excluding service costs and costs for water, power, heating and VAT. Please explain in your letter what your work (and possibly your partner’s) is all about and why you want to work in a studio in Amsterdam Zuidoost. We also would like to recieve your portfolio, CV, and a proof of registration in the dutch chamber of commerce. A maximum yearly income applies to be eligible for a studio at OAZO, conform CAWA standards. Selection Depending on the amount of applications, a selection of candidates will be made one or more viewings will be planned for suitable candidates. Artists that are pro-active, who strive for daily presence and production and have an intense focus on their creative work are preferred. Suitable candidates that can’t be offered a workspace immediately are invited to be put on a waiting list and will recieve a notification when a new space becomes available.
